Patched – Adobe Flash Player Vulnerability

28 February 2009 No Comment

Recently an update from the iDefense Labs came out with a vulnerability found in the Adobe Flash Player plugin (version 10.0.12.36 and earlier), which is installed on browsers to view dynamic content on websites.

A hacker with criminal intentions can exploit this vulnerability by getting the target user to download a malicious Shockwave file. Once this is done, the attacker can execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the current user. Considering that most users are administrators of their own computers, the whole system can be compromised.

Adobe has released a patch to fix this vulnerability, and recommends that all users of Flash Player version 10.0.12.36 or earlier to upgrade to 10.0.22.87.
