There are bloggers who are successful with one blog. And then there are successful bloggers who have multiple blogs. Managing one blog is itself sometimes not an easy task (depending upon the topic of the blog, time spent on it, etc.). How do people manage more than one?
Running a blog is like running a company. When you run multiple companies, you run it for profit, and do not want to run it in loss. People who manage multiple blogs have to be very much organized so that their blogs become successful.
Though this is not a comprehensive list (because you can always come up with new ideas), here is something that can help you manage your blogs -
Organizing your time
Many bloggers juggle their blog with their daily life. Sometimes it becomes a tough job to concentrate on your blog when you have pressing business at work. Everyone has 24 hours in a day, and effectively managing those hours in your day is in your hands. Take some time off for finding out ideas and writing content for your blog, as well as deciding what to post next.
The best time to set aside for blogging would be the time you feel fresh and most productive. I work well in the morning times while my productivity is lower in the afternoon. But this changes from person to person. Take some time out of your productive time for blogging and that would yield best results for your blog.
Organizing your blogging
If you have a single blog, or multiple blogs, organizing your time is the first thing to do. Then comes effectively managing the time you set aside for blogging. Organizing the content you want to post will help you in managing your blogging time. One way of doing it is to create folders for each blog so that everything that you write about will go to its own place. For example, if you have a Photography blog and a blog about Fashion Design, you can create two separate folders for them and write the text content in there.
Another thing to do is to make a plan for your posting. Create timelines for yourself and stick to them so that your previous posting schedule does not affect the next. And if you are not able to keep up with some of them, make sure that they don’t affect the next thing you want to post. Find the best cycle that suits you, make it part of your daily chore, and you’ll see the good effects of it.
Make your posts effective
Multiple blogs does not give you enough time to write a lot of posts to all of them. In this case what you can do is to concentrate on quality than quantity. Make sure that whatever you post in your blogs is an eyecatcher. Make the posts that you put in eye catching and interesting. If your post caters to a wide audience from your visitors, they’ll keep your blog alive with their comments till they get your next post.
Keep listing down your post ideas
It is not necessary that you find a blog post idea right when you are blogging. You can get ideas when you are in the shower, while you are driving, having coffee or when you are reading a newspaper. There is no specific time for your brain cells to work and glow the “bulb”.
My business is mostly done online, so I am in front of a computer. I have a handy notepad to write down post ideas as and when they strike. While travelling, I use a PDA to help me out. When I get a post idea, I write it down as one or two lines so that I remember it later when I see it. Organizing them comes when I get into my blogging time, where I put those ideas into its relevant folder and then develop on them.
Taking a break
It’s a good thing to schedule your day, but it’s also a good thing to freak out once in awhile. Schedule some time out of your blogging times and do something different. It is like taking a vacation small vacation from your blog. Plan for it well and early, so that you have enough time on your hands to be ready for it when it comes. And yes, if you have a good readership, it is a good thing to let your readers know that you’ll be off for sometime - I have seen some of the good bloggers do that.
Hiring writers
You started with one blog, it was going well, then you started another, and then another and then another, and it went on till you had about ten to fifteen blogs that you have to manage (trust me, there are people who do that). If you have about a couple of hours to blog with you, managing 15 blogs at a time would be a chore. This is when you get help. In my case, my wife is a great help. Ask your partner or a friend to help you out if they have a flair for writing, or if you are ok to put some money out, hire a freelance writer to write for your blog.
Managing a blog is a serious business if you are serious about your business. Managing multiple blogs ask you to cater for a wider range of viewers with different tastes. Blogging takes several hours per week, so use your time wisely to make sure you get the best out of each of your 24 hours.
What’s your workflow? Let me know.
